Downloadable Show
Back on Nov. 24, 2004 the Woggles finished up their tour with Holly Golightly at world famous Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ. The show was webcast that night via emusic and is available for sale at www.emusic.com. Towards the end of the set, Holly's part time drummer/organ player, the Bongolian came up and played organ on a few of the r&b flavored numbers like "The Swim," "Gotta Go Now", "Get Down With It" and "My Baby Likes To Boogaloo." The set also featured new numbers not yet recorded like "It's Not About What I Want (It's What You Got)" and "Rock and Roll Backlash," plus a cover of the 60s German Lords "Help The World Is Falling."
Those Feisty Philly Minks
The gals in Philadelphia PA's Thee Minks are responsible for what should be the biggest hit of the beginning of the 21st Century! Do A Woggle was recorded at Mondo Topless' guitar player Kris Alutius' Slug Sound Studios. The track is slated for an upcoming Minks' album to be released in May of this year on Philly's Steel Cage Records. The song features lyrics about all the members, but winds up with "The Flesh Hammer's got what I want." According to the Flesh Hammer, "This is the most important song you will ever hear." Check out their website at www.theeminks.com.
Siren's Songs
Detroit's all gal band, The Sirens, are due to release their self titled album on Get Hip Records early this year. These ladies are high class and their good taste shows in their choice of material, including a version of the Woggles' tune Push!! The Sirens consist of Muffy Kroha (vocals), Melody Baetens (guitar), Aran Ruth (guitar), Michelle Lannoo (bass) and Deanne Iovan on drums. This, their debut album, was recorded and produced by Michael Ivins (Flaming Lips' bassist) and by Jim Diamond at Ghetto Recorders.
Upcoming Releases!
Montague Memorial 7" Record. Back when the tracks for RAGGED were recorde there were a handful of songs that didn't get mixed/finished due to time constraints. Two of those were Montague songs and have since been mixed to be issued on Portland's Blood Red Vinyl & Disc. Shortly before his passing, Montague purchased a 1960 Ford Thunderbird. His ode to it is called "Go Go Thunderbird" and features Montague siniging lead with backing vocals by Mary Huff (SCOTS) and Lady Fingers (Hillbilly Frankenstein). The other song is a Ramones-esque rocker about those hot looking radio DJs called "Radio Face."
The good folks at San Antonio's Kreepy Klub Records are puttin' out a tribute record to the instrumental genius of "Frankie Stein & his Ghouls." Frankie and his pals were apparently studio musicians in the early to mid '60s who simultaneously put out several albums of Halloween-spook inspired instrumental rock and roll music. Complete w/ whips, chains, screams, grunts and growls the tunes are all a real hoot (or howl). Quite naturally they thought the Woggles should contribute a Frankie tune and the Woggles happily obliged with a rendition of "The Elbow Twist" recorded at Bakos Amp Works Studio. The release is set for later this year and the plan is that it'll be a 10" on either Frankie Green Vinyl or Blood Red Vinyl.
For a Blood Red Vinyl release, the Woggles recorded a version of "Find It" from the
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls soundtrack. The cut is for a
compilation that Blood Red Vinyl is doing of songs that are featured in
soundtracks. Their first volume, Mondo Drive In: Volume 1 was
released to all sorts of critical acclaim.
The Woggles have recorded the Small Faces song "Hey Girl." Sung in German, it's
due out on an upcoming Small Faces tribute record on Germany's Twist Records.
Upcoming Projects!
Are you a fan of Mexican Wrestling? Maybe you've heard of a killer cartoon on
WB called Mucha Lucha!? Well, you ought to have by now and the reason
that's important to the Woggles is that not only is Mexican wrestling fun and
Mucha Lucha! a blast, but the shows creators, Eddie Mort and Lili Chin,
have asked the Woggles to do the theme song for their newest project Endsville.
The show is set out somewhere in the Southwestern desert, at the end of the
pavement, at the end of the line, where a bunch of whacked out drag racers spend
their lives tricking out their rods and racing each other. The Man, of course,
can't just let'em be and is constantly giving them hassles, while space aliens,
government agents, zombies and the like all make their appearances in town.
The band has recorded a demo of the song and are waiting for some story board
work to finish up the arrangement.
The Woggles are hard at work on a new long player and have booked time again at Rick Miller's Kudzu Ranch outside of Chapel Hill, NC. The recording date is set in March and the Woggles hope to have most, if not all, of the new record completed then.
On the backburner, is a cover's album planned for France's Larson Records.
